Stilting a donut bead
is very simple. The way that is pictured, leaves the least amount of stilt
marks. All you need are 2 small 2" tall posts and one nichrome high-fire rod
, all which available in our Firing: Kiln & Torch Supplies
. Make sure it has room so that it doesn't touch the posts on either side, especially if your kiln
is vented. The air that circulates in a vented kiln
can sometimes cause the donut
to sway from side to side. So test it to make sure it will not touch. Anyway you stilt will leave a small "stilt" mark after firing where the wire touched. Simply grind that off with a dremel with a grinding cone attached or manually with a stilting stone.
