When you order casting grains you'll get an amazing selection of sizes and shapes. Often you'll get tiny grains that are almost impossible to use well. By taking 2 or more tiny grains and placing them next to each other on the soldering board and heating them, they will combine and ball up on themselves. This gives you a nice, larger size casting grain.
